Description

A post-apocalyptic thriller of the after effects in the United States after a terrifying terrorist attack using electromagnetic pulse weapons.

New York Times
best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies.

Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.

  • Fear, not art.

Had to abandon this after about 100 pages, when the so-called hero executes two men in cold blood when they could’ve just been locked up for petty theft. His book could have been interesting, and the EMP weapon information was fascinating for a bit, but this devolved into a fear mongering political statement. And a misguided one, at that. Read something more worthwhile that has so,e humanity.

A very sobering look at what would happen after an EMP attack. This book should be a wake up call to our government to take action NOW, to mitigate the horrors that would happen after such an attack. No army needed, only one missile with a nuclear warhead necessary.
  • Gut wrenching indeed

What a startling read. When faced with the possibility or probability of the disappearance of our modern society, you have to consider how many very sophisticated societies of the past have already disappeared over the past eons. As complex as our society is, we have to be aware of how precarious and intertwined we all are. The fallout from COVID and its repercussions amount to a “shot across our bow.”

A book we should all read and be prepared for. Cried tons of tears and realized I would have been one of many to go first. Great read if only to open your eyes!
  • I wish an EMP hit before I bought a digital copy of this book

I thought the premise of this book was interesting but I just did not enjoy it. Cheesy imagery and dialog especially when it comes to anything patriotic.
  • Less frightening than the reality.

The events portrayed in this book are better than what we can expect in the event of an EMP attack, or a X-class solar flare that would take down our aging electrical grid in seconds. Forewarned should result in being forearmed.
  • Great book, chilling!

I've read this book twice. Such a great story as terrifying as it is. A LOT to think about, probably prepare for. Really good story, we'll written, hard to put down. Thanks for waking me up a bit more!

Frightening, we take for granted our technology. Born at the end of WW11 I have seen both sides. Something that should be addressed. We never have had the issues in the book but we could have! I fear for younger generations.
