Description

The visionary author’s masterpiece pulls us—along with her Black female hero—through time to face the horrors of slavery and explore the impacts of racism, sexism, and white supremacy then and now.

Dana, a modern black woman, is celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana's life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.

Please read this. It’s a thrilling page turner. But mostly I think this is an important book. I am mad that as a lover of science fiction I didn’t know about Octavia Butler until I went looking for science fiction written by women of color.

It took several attempts for me to get into this book. I believe it’s not the book sometimes the reader isn’t ready for it. When I was open to receive it I could not put it down. It was more than a journey it will always remain with me. Some books are great you enjoy it and that’s it. Then there are other books that become a part of shaping the person that you are.

It was a little difficult for me to follow at first, but when I got into it, I got INTO it. I stayed up when I knew I was tired JUST to finish the chapter.
