    Well this was not quite the way I was expecting the series to go. I’m not so sure I really liked the supernatural-like elements. I did like Dex’s sense of humor. I laughed out loud a few times. His relationship with the children and his sister is interesting also. I’m continuing the series for sure.

    I should admit that I watched the entire Dexter series before reading any of the books. Maybe that's why I like the tv series better than the books, but it just seems to me that they did a way better job with Mr. Lindsay's idea than he did in his own books. (Spoiler alert) I hate that Deborah becomes aware of what Dexter is and just accepts it. I hate that Cody and Astor have dark passengers of their own. But, most of all, I hate this explanation of the dark passenger as the offspring of an ancient god, who just happens to ride along in Dexter's brain, rather than being Dexter's own psyche. I've always accepted that the "dark passenger" was Dexter's way of describing the part of his personality that needs to kill, stemming from an extreme childhood trauma. I did to like this outlandish magical/occult explanation. It took the realism out of the series for me (and it got very annoying listening to Dexter continually whining about his missing passenger). It was slow going getting through this book. I will finish reading the series, just to see how the ending differs from the show, but I'm not optimistic.

    This book is very repetitive and it doesn't have any real conclusion or answers to the numerous questions made from the beginning. Kind of disappointed, because "Dearly, Devoted Dexter" set the bar pretty high, and this book was kind of a sorry trip to killer land...

    This one was not as good as Dearly Devoted Dexter, but still quite good until the final 20-40 pages, where it just takes an outrageous, disappointing turn. The story becomes just weird and eventually downright unbelievable.

    Excellent storytelling on Lindsay's behalf. However, I did NOT like the direction that was taken with the story. Dearly Devoted Dexter so far, is my favorite book in the series and I am excited to start Dexter By Design in hopes that the story takes a better turn.

    After the masterpiece of the second Dexter book I was disappointed with the direction the third book, and assuming the remaining have taken. I will give the fourth book a read but have low expectations.
