Originally published in 1939, when A.A. membership numbered about one hundred, Alcoholics Anonymous has steadily grown in readership. By the time the second edition appeared in 1955, membership had reached over 15,000, and the Big Book, A.A. members’ fond title for their basic text, had reached a distribution of more than 300,000. At the time of the third edition, in March 1976, the worldwide membership of A.A. was estimated at 1 million or more. The basic text, pages 1-164, which had been the foundation of recovery for so many alcoholics remained, and still remains, unchanged. The General Service Conference-approved fourth edition of Alcoholics Anonymous was first printed in October 2001 and has been reprinted 30 times since then. This edition includes 24 new stories that provide contemporary sharing for newcomers seeking recovery from alcoholism in A.A. during the early decades of the 21st century. Sixteen stories are retained from the third edition, including the “Pioneers of A.A.” section, which helps the reader remain linked to A.A.’s historic roots and shows how alcoholics get sober today. More than 30 million copies of the first four editions of the Big Book have been distributed. This is the only A.A.W.S.-authorized e-book version of Alcoholics Anonymous.

  • Don’t putcjase

The issue of there being no page numbers that correspond to the print version make this almost useless to a faithful reader of the Big Book. Wish I had read the reviews. Stick with an actual Big Book.

  • Inaccurate pagination

Maybe I don’t know how to use it properly, but I never find the correct page number to match the text. For example if a quote is on page 64 in the fourth edition of the hardback version, on this app it is be cited on several other page numbers but not on page 64. Even the number at the bottom of the visual page is not 64. Can I get help or a refund?
  • page numbers, please

The ebook version would be so much less cumbersome and all the more useful if page numbers and delimiters were included. Page numbers are an important and necessary feature for finding commonly cited quotes and passages, and reading along with others.

    Life saving
  • Horrible for reference

I was so excited about using this eText as I have recently began reading digital material instead of print. Absolutely do not buy this eText. None of the page numbers actually match up with the print text and it is a nightmare.
  • Great resource BUT........

The page number issue definitely needs to be resolved. It is very hard to follow along in a book study or look up a suggested page on the fly when the page numbers are not accurate to the hardback version. Please fix this issue.
  • This Book Saves Lives

    By Gacarkec
I, myself, had only a short binge-drinking career, which transcended my teenage years through my very utterly early twenties; that was it, for me. Not only alcohol, but drugs plagued my mind with fear, schizophrenia, paranoia and crippling fear. I, still to this day, have spent massive amounts of time in solitude due to my reckless habits; friends have abandoned, family members have aggressively shunned. I nearly have no place in this world. It is by working on participating in both the Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous programs that I am regaining a grip on sanity, a hope for creating a greater, more worthwhile destiny for those who surround me and myself, and a greater over-all feeling of well-being. I cannot recommend more-so to anyone wishing to achieve sobriety and to establish participation to the best of their ability in the A.A. program that they purchase and read through this entire book, one time, at the very least. Thank you! -George
