Description

The New Testament: The Good News of Jesus Christ provides an in-depth study of the New Testament. Since Jesus Christ's life, death, and Resurrection are at the heart of the Christian mystery, this course begins by looking at the four complementary but unique portraits of Jesus that are found in the four Gospels. Next, it traces the spread of the Gospel as told in Acts and the Letters. The course also considers the challenges faced by the early Church that emerge through a careful reading of the New Testament Letters and the Book of Revelation. Additionally, it will look closely at what the followers of Jesus in the early Church proclaimed about him and explore the historical, religious and cultural world of Jesus' time. Ultimately, the course will guide students in seeing the relevance of the Gospel message for the world today.

I have previously criticized the book “The Bible” as it is NOT a study Bible but merely a study guide about the Bible. Similarly, this book is just a study guide of the New Testament. I examined the sample and was disappointed with the simplicity of the material. The content in the sample was very basic and lacked depth. I was not inspired to purchase the book. To Apple and St. Mary”s Press. Please offer an actual interactive Catholic study Bible with an advanced, comprehensive commentary available via the Books app. Apps like Olive Tree offer excellent study bibles with assorted parallel commentaries, but almost all of the materials are targeted for protestant readers. There seems to be a great opportunity here to publish the NABre with optional parallel links to various study guides, dictionaries, maps, and theological commentaries (including comprehensive series as extensive as the Yale Anchor Yale Bible Series). Just a thought...
