Description

An Apple Books Classic edition.

Alexandre Dumas’ classic paints a portrait of Edmond Dantès, a dark and calculating man who is willing to wait years to exact his perfect plan for revenge. After his so-called friends frame him for treason, Dantès is sentenced to life imprisonment in a grim island fortress on what was supposed to be his wedding day. After 14 years, he manages to escape prison, but he is unable to free himself from an all-consuming fury. Instead, Dantès spends a decade carrying out the plan for revenge he conceived while behind bars, bringing nightmarish ruination to those who once betrayed him-and second chances to those who tried to save him.

When it was first published in 1844, The Count of Monte Cristo quickly became the best-selling book in all of Europe. Dumas’ novel was ahead of its time, an exciting tale of adventure, treasure, secret identities, and daring escapes. It also reads like an early psychological thriller, leaving readers uneasy as they cheer Dantès on in his vengeful quest. It’s no wonder this book has inspired dozens of screen adaptations!

This is one of the best books ever written. Dumas is inspired. On the other hand, this version could use a good proofreading.

This book is free BUT it has a lot of typing errors. For example, in a lot of places “l” is scanned as “1”. This does not help when you want to find references of any name or word on the internet through the app.

Beautiful. It transported me. I read it on my phone, crazy place to read a book like this. Because of that, I was not keeping track of where I was in the novel. I kept thinking I was near the end, then another side story would develop and fascinate me. The writing was a work of art. The descriptions and characters were so intricate that you felt like you were part of the story. A true masterpiece.

  • Excellent Story; Dismal Editing

2 Stars: because the book was free, and I love this story. I would recommend renting from the library or purchasing a different copy of this book. This copy is inundated with spelling errors and repeated paragraphs. When the language at time of writing has variations with present day, the spelling errors made this book unbearable at many points through the story.

My favourite book of all time! Revenge, deception, forethought, love… every emotion you love in a good story. A book that transcends decades and is as enjoyable the fifth time as the first.
