Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.

Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.

When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life.

  • Worst Book Ever

I can’t believe how terrible this book was. The spelling and grammar were horrible. The story was very confusing at times. It had many slow parts to the point I wanted to rip my eyes out. But I stuck with it. Honestly wish I hadn’t wasted so much time on this book. I don’t understand how this garbage can be a “classic”. It’s just as horrible as the movie.
  • Amazing!

Somehow I didn’t have to read this book in high school. So glad to have read it as an adult. Very prescient in 2021.

  • Classic; but can be slow

This book is absolutely eye opening about the issues that we face as a society, but it is quite slow at times. It is one of those books that you must read at least once in your lifetime.
  • Spellbinding

Written in a way that has you seeing the world with new eyes and entering it with more gratitude. The message is sobering and the book, irreplaceable.

Truly a classic - such a true picture of human behavior -completely appropriate for today’s world.

This book is so boring and confusing and I’m supposed to be forced to read it and do 75 questions for school and I barely can do it because it’s so confusing and boring. And the chapters are like SUPER long.
