Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER •  In this hilarious instant classic, the creator of The Mindy Project and Never Have I Ever invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood.

“[Kaling is] like Tina Fey’s cool little sister. Or perhaps . . . the next Nora Ephron.”—The New York Times

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

With several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? proves that Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

Praise for Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

“Where have you been all our lives, Mindy?”Glamour

“Who wouldn’t want to hang out with Mindy Kaling? . . . [Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?] is like a mash note to comedy nerds.”Time Out New York

“Very funny.”Boston Globe

absolutely agree with the review before me. started strong & funny, then quickly became boring and long winded. i, too, skimmed the end of the book - lots of hypothetical lists which i felt she used to take up space. wouldn’t recommend unfortunately!

This book had me laughing out loud in the beginning, bored by the middle, and skimming the end wishing it would be over. So just read the first third, it’s hilarious. After that it gets repetitive like an SNL sketch that’s gone on too long.
  • Best Book! Read in one sitting!

I usually don't have the attention span to read a whole book cover to cover but this book was an exception for me. It was filled with humor and actually helpful insight that kept me hungry for more. Kaling is a gifted author and comedian in her own right.
  • LOL funny

I read this on vacation and it's the perfect light read. Mindy is hilarious.
  • Funny & cute, but rambling

The book was light and fun, but not deep or meaningful in any way. I appreciated MK's light humor; it was what I needed during a crazy heavy time in my life.
  • Hilarious and Honest

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as Mindy's new book. She tells interesting personal stories about her childhood, romantic life, and rise to fame. She is that one funny friend we all want to have. Most importantly, she is so real. I definitely recommend this book.

I read this while I was deathly ill (not even kidding about this) and it made me feel a little better. I can't wait to read more from Mindy and to be back to health, so I can actually lol at her jokes. Read it and you'll smile - which is totally worth ten bucks.
  • Love this book!

I loved this book! I’m a huge fan of Mindy Kaling ever since I started watching The Mindy Project. The book is equally hilarious. Had a great time reading it and can’t wait to buy her next book!
  • Great start then lost charm

I was drawn by the funny beginning. However this book gets less interesting from the middle. I still think it is worth reading since there are not that many Asian best selling authors out there, especially a young woman.
