Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a seductively suspenseful tale of one woman’s shattered innocence, the terrifying search for truth and a heart’s journey toward healing…

Olivia’s parents were among Hollywood’s golden couples—until the night a monster came and took her mother away forever. A monster with the face of her father...

Sheltered from the truth, an older Olivia only dimly recalls her night of terror—but her recurring nightmares make her realize she must piece together the real story. Now, assisted by Noah Brady, the son of the police detective who found her cowering in her closet so many years before, she may have her chance. Noah wants to reconstruct the night that has become an infamous part of Hollywood history. He also wants to help Olivia and heal the longing in her lonely heart. But once the door to her past is opened, there’s no telling what’s waiting on the other side. For somewhere, not too far away, the monster walks again...

I liked the surprise ending, but for most of the rest of the book before that I felt like the hero and heroine should not be together.

One thing I love about Nora Roberts is her wonderful descriptions that pull you into her stories. This is one of those stories that are so hard to put down. The characters are so human, far from perfect, and relatable. I always enjoy the plot twists she throws out, and this didn’t disappoint.

Boring. The male lead is obnoxious, and the female is an absolute wimp, even though she’s billed as some kind of strong, independent woman.
  • Nora Roberts does it again.

Feels like I have no words, but then again I do. Thrilling. Moving. Suspenseful. On my top 3 list along with "The Obsession”.

The first chapters were so slow I almost quit reading. But, suddenly it picked up the story line and I couldn’t put it down.
  • River's End not up to snuff

I'm a dedicated NR fan since her early days, and have read everything. This was the first I HAD PROBLEMS FINISHING! I love her series, and got hooked on her with her first long stand-alone a like Hidden Riches and Honest Illusions. Her later stand alones haven't exactly thrilled but we're decent reads. This one was BORING and TEDIOUS. Too much time getting into the characters-feeling, inadquacies, detail; the main characters didn't get together until near the end of the book, and the ending came quickly out left field. No hint of the killer or his motivation until the last chapter. In fact, if you read the prolog, the first two chapters of parts one and two, and pick it up at the third part, fast forward to part four and then you have it.
  • Nasty.

Violent and leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. The gratuitous crime completely overshadows the romance.
