Description

Ambition will fuel him. Competition will drive him. But power has its price.
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He's been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

This book was amazing ! Definitely liked how it connects back to the original trilogy throughout the book. Loved the backstory to how Snow became the way he did. Lucy Gray was a great addition to Snow’s history. Would love to read her POV.

I think it needed more info about what happened to Lucy. I know it was written from his perspective though but that part is irritating I like how it ties into the series though and shows snows perspective on a couple of things

It isn’t my favorite book in the series or in general. I read the original trilogy in three days (one book each day) because I loved them so much. This took me a week to finish.

I hate Snow and I hope the next time he bleaches his hair it falls out (he’s so fine though)

Coriolanus gets so close to getting the point so many times, and yet, we still have another three books showcasing how far off the mark he got.
  • 4.3/5 for making me scream

It’s hard to enjoy a book where you despise the main character from start to finish, but this book pulled it off. I don’t understand other reviewers who are sympathetic towards Coriolanus Snow, he is clearly a sociopath from start to finish. Anyway though, this book was an amazing addition to the Hunger Games world. It didn’t get five stars from me because parts seemed to drag. The characters were the best part, each one of them from the most central to the plot to minor characters were well thought out and unique. I rather hated this book—in a very enjoyable kind of way. I recommend reading, just be prepared to rip some of your hair out trying to wrap your brain around Snow’s twisted worldview.
