Description

**THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER**

"An unforgettable—and Hollywood-bound—new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."
Entertainment Weekly

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

Well written book about a mentally disturbed woman who is selective mute with an interesting twist in the end but also felt a little flat.

This book was just absolutely amazing. At first I wasn’t able to get into it but then I kept reading because I’m in school to get my psychology degree. Over all I’m so glad I continued to read it was definitely worth it.

It started fine then it turned into the worst drivel I’ve ever read I’ll never read anything by this author again or watch a movie or anything it’s horrible one of the few books I just couldn’t finish. It doesn’t deserve one star it deserves no stars
  • How is this Author not a Therapist?!

I couldn’t put this book down. Read it in a weekend. As a former Therapist, I found myself angry at the main character throughout the whole story—then that stellar ending. Wow. The nuance of the characters to include their inner worlds, their flaws, and how it all tied to therapy and inpatient psychiatric facilities?! It was clearly so well researched so the story nestled in to the scenery seamlessly.
  • Great twist

For me, this book started out a tad slow which is why I’m giving it 4/5 stars. The ending had a great twist and I wish had went on a little while longer to know the final resolution.
