Description

A #1 New York Times bestseller!

Sarah J. Maas's brand-new CRESCENT CITY series begins with House of Earth and Blood: the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.

I loved this book. At first I did not, there was so much information about worlds that was hard to understand at first & so many character introductions that it was hard to keep focus and get into the book. But after a few chapters the writer really drags you in! Such an interesting and exciting world she paints and I loved all the main characters. I wish there was a little more sex haha but overall great read

I absolutely loved her other 2 series of books and read them quickly. They were my first fantasy books even and court of thorn & roses series hooked me immediately. Throne of Glass is a little slow at first, but an excellent series, too. This book ends very strong, but the entire first half was a chore to get through. It’s like someone else wrote the first 700 pages. Boring dialogue and shallow characters. I almost gave up completely, but I am glad I hung in there. Stopped and started many times. At about page 700 it got really good. I’m debating about reading the rest of the series. Hopefully the editors did a better job with the rest of the books.

Honestly this book was the definition of whiplash. The out of no where plots or revelations were so sudden and entertaining I finish this book in two days. I needed the answers. I’ve read all of Sarah J. Maas books and every book just get better and better. If you’re in to always been in your toes with questions then this book is perfect. The ending is perfect and I’m so excited to read the next book, I even preordered the new on expected to come out in January.

While there were definitely some parts of this book that had me happy and or crying, I’m not so sure this comes close to how good her other series are. I’m not sure how Bryce did not collapse from exhaustion a single time throughout the book because she took multiple emotional or physical hits each chapter. And unfortunately- bc I really do love SJM- the whole book came off as rather rushed and unrealistic in the number of miracles that happened throughout. That being said- I’m still going to read the second book lol 😂 .

Convoluted until 400-500 pages into. Then it fell into her normal writing style. Wouldn’t even call it world building just lots and lots of detail that muddled the first half of the book. Still absolutely hooked by the end as I feel with all Maas series
